Jury Rules Samsung Should Pay Apple $1B In Damages

A jury awarded Apple $1.05bn (£665m) in damages from Samsung in an intellectual property/ patent lawsuit in the US. The ruling mentioned that several of Samsung’s devices had infringed Apple’s software and design patents and rejected the claims of Samsung that several of its patents had been breached and awarded it no damages.

With this ruling, Apple may now seek an import ban of some of Samsung’s products, blocking them from the US market. The two firms account for more than half of global smartphone and tablet computer sales. Not all of Apple’s claims were upheld in the ruling and based on previous cases, Samsung will likely appeal the case.
